Comparisson of different implantation methods for CI-surgery
Researchers: R.A. Tange, PhD., W. Grolman, PhD., (AMC)
in cooperation with P. Merkus, PhD.,
and C.F.G.M. Smit, PhD., (VUMC)
Aim:
The project aims to compare the different operation techniques for the implantation of a cochlear implant in deaf patients. The outcome focuses on logistic aspects and on the postoperative reaction of the mastoid.
Method:
Since 2001 there is a unique cooperation between the ENT-departments of AMC and VUMC in the field of cochlear implantation (CI-A). In the AMC we apply a mastoid preserving implantation method while the VUMC applies the posterior tympanotomy. By using a common database the results of these two techniques can easily be compared and evaluated after some time. Pre-operative and postoperative CT-scans will be used in this project.
Results:
The data of 53 implanted patients have been included thus far.
